BJP candidate Debangshu Panda secured a landslide victory in the Falta Assembly repoll, defeating his nearest rival by more than 1.09 lakh votes.
May 24, 2026: Debangshu Panda emerged victorious in the Falta Assembly repoll in West Bengal with a massive margin of 1,09,021 votes, delivering a significant political win for the BJP in a constituency previously viewed as a stronghold of the All India Trinamool Congress. Speaking after his victory, Panda thanked the people of Falta for supporting the BJP and said the result reflected the public’s trust in the party. During the counting process, Panda had stated that the BJP was maintaining a huge lead as round-wise results continued to come in.
Panda secured 1,49,666 votes, comfortably defeating CPI(M) candidate Sambhu Nath Kurmi, who received 40,645 votes. Congress nominee Abdur Razzak Molla finished third with 10,084 votes, while TMC candidate Jahangir Khan managed around 7,783 votes. The scale of the BJP’s victory has turned the Falta repoll into a politically significant development in Bengal politics.

Before entering electoral politics, Panda worked professionally as an advocate and was actively engaged in legal practice. His decisive win in the Falta repoll is being seen as a major boost for the BJP’s political presence in the Diamond Harbour region.
