Lalit Modi claimed no case has been proven against him in 17 years
June 5, 2026: Lalit Modi, businessman and former cricket administrator, has questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over repeatedly referring to him in speeches and parliamentary discussions. In an interview with ANI, Modi said no court case has been proven against him in the last 17 years and argued that if he had committed any wrongdoing, he would have already faced legal punishment. He maintained that all actions must follow due process and claimed the absence of convictions demonstrates his innocence.
Modi said he was not afraid of the law but was concerned about what he described as politically motivated attempts to target him. He also remarked that his association with cricket and the IPL had kept him in the public spotlight, adding that his visibility often attracts greater scrutiny. According to Modi, influential individuals continue to raise allegations against him despite the lack of proven cases.
Reflecting on the 2009 IPL season, Modi recalled the challenges that led to the tournament being shifted to South Africa. He alleged that the Congress-led UPA government refused to provide security due to the general elections and claimed then Home Minister P. Chidambaram opposed hosting the event in India. Modi said his team revised the IPL schedule multiple times before finally relocating the tournament and ended by questioning why political leaders continue to target him despite, according to him, the absence of any proven charges.
