Israel has proposed installing a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in one of its major cities as a symbol of friendship

June 9, 2026: Israel is planning to install a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in one of its major cities as part of a long-term initiative aimed at strengthening cultural and historical ties with India. Speaking on Shivaji Maharaj’s Coronation Day, Israel’s Consul General to Mumbai, Yaniv Revach, said the proposal had been discussed with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who assured full support for the project.

Revach said the idea emerged from efforts to deepen India-Israel relations following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jerusalem. According to him, the project is intended as a gesture of goodwill towards the people of India and will help create greater awareness about Shivaji Maharaj in Israel. He also highlighted similarities in the historical journeys of India and Israel, noting that both nations fought long struggles to secure their future and identity.

The Israeli diplomat praised Shivaji Maharaj’s qualities of good governance, courage and religious tolerance, describing him as a leader who continues to inspire generations. He said the proposed statue would become a powerful symbol of friendship between the two countries. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled a 20-foot bronze statue of Shivaji Maharaj at the Navi Mumbai International Airport on Shivrajyabhishek Din, saying it would inspire travellers visiting the airport.
