May 23, 2026: The official website of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a viral youth-led online movement, has reportedly been taken down amid an ongoing crackdown on the platform’s digital presence. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the party’s X account had earlier been withheld, while its backup Instagram account was removed. He also alleged that both his personal Instagram profile and the party’s main account had been hacked.
The movement first gained traction after controversy erupted over remarks linked to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a court hearing, where references to “cockroaches” and “parasites” triggered outrage online. Though the CJI later clarified that the comments were directed at people entering the legal profession using fake degrees, the incident sparked a satirical online campaign that soon evolved into a larger digital protest movement led by Gen Z users. Through memes, parody content and political commentary, the platform highlighted issues such as unemployment, education failures and the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy.
Dipke claimed that over 10 lakh users had registered through the now-defunct website and that more than 6 lakh people had signed a petition demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the education crisis. Despite the crackdown, the movement continued to grow online, crossing 22 million followers on Instagram. Several political leaders and activists, including Mahua Moitra, Akhilesh Yadav and activist Prashant Bhushan, have publicly engaged with or supported the movement. Digital rights organisation Internet Freedom Foundation criticised the blocking of the platform’s accounts, calling it an attempt to suppress free speech.
