In a bold directive, Elon Musk demands federal employees report their weekly work progress, warning that non-compliance could be seen as resignation, sparking backlash from national security agencies.

Washington DC [US], February 23: In a shocking announcement, tech billionaire Elon Musk on Saturday ordered all US federal employees to submit a weekly report of their accomplishments, warning that failure to respond could be considered a resignation.

The email, sent from the Office of Personnel Management’s new HR address, had no official signature and carried the subject line: “What did you do last week?”

“Please reply to this email with approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished last week and cc your manager. Please do not send any classified information, links, or attachments,” the email stated, as reported by CNN.

Musk later confirmed the move on X (formerly Twitter):

“Consistent with President @realDonaldTrump’s instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week. Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”

Trump Praises Musk, Calls for More Aggression

Hours before the directive, US President Donald Trump praised Musk’s leadership, encouraging him to be “more aggressive” in his approach.

“ELON IS DOING A GREAT JOB, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM GET MORE AGGRESSIVE. REMEMBER, WE HAVE A COUNTRY TO SAVE, BUT ULTIMATELY, TO MAKE GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE. MAGA!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump later hailed Musk as a “patriot” during his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), reinforcing his support for Musk’s growing influence in government affairs.

Federal Agencies Push Back—FBI Warns Staff Not to Respond

The email directive immediately sparked concerns among multiple US national security agencies, including the FBI, which advised staff members not to respond until further clarification was received.

FBI Director Kash Patel issued an internal memo instructing employees to pause any responses.

“The FBI, through the Office of the Director, is in charge of all of our review processes and will conduct reviews in accordance with FBI procedures. When and if further information is required, we will coordinate the responses. For now, please pause any responses,” Patel’s email stated, as per CNN.

Musk Suggests Promotions for Employees Who Comply

Despite growing resistance, Musk doubled down on his stance, later posting that employees who complied with the email should be promoted.

As tensions rise between federal agencies and the new administration, this unprecedented demand raises questions about workplace policies, executive power, and Musk’s expanding role in shaping government operations.
