A tragic Cuddalore train accident occurred on Tuesday morning when a school van carrying children was struck by a moving passenger train at a railway-level crossing in Cuddalore district. The collision led to the death of two students, while at least six more were critically injured.
The devastating incident took place around 7:45 am at a manned level crossing between Cuddalore and Alappakkam. The Cuddalore train accident has raised serious concerns about railway safety protocols and possible human error.
According to a senior police officer quoted by NDTV, “Two children from the village have died. Two others are being treated at the hospital.” Emergency services quickly responded, transporting the injured children to a nearby hospital.
Eyewitnesses claim the gate was open when the train arrived, though it is yet to be confirmed if the railway staff responsible for the crossing was present. A railway official said, “It was a manned crossing and involved a passenger train. We will come back with more details.”
The Cuddalore train accident has triggered anger among locals and calls for stricter safety measures at railway crossings—especially those frequented by school vehicles. An official investigation is expected to determine if negligence was involved.
