Bumrah’s Fitness Challenge
Jasprit Bumrah, who has been sidelined since the 5th Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney, is currently recovering from a back injury. Reports suggest the BCCI is willing to wait until the last minute for Bumrah, even if it means naming a partially-fit pacer in the final squad.

A source within the BCCI stated, “Even if there’s a 1% chance of Bumrah being fit, the board will wait. Similar patience was shown for Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill in recent cases.”
Rehabilitation Begins
The speedster has undergone weeks of rest, refraining from physical activity as per medical advice. Now, he has begun his rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Depending on his progress, the BCCI will make a final decision about his participation.

Backup Options in Place
While Bumrah remains central to India’s plans, Varun Chakravarthy is reportedly being considered for the squad. Captain Rohit Sharma hinted at the possibility during a pre-series press interaction, emphasizing the importance of assessing all options.
“If things pan out well and he delivers what’s required, we will consider him,” Rohit said.
Critical Role in Indian Team
As one of the best pacers in the world, Bumrah’s availability is crucial for India’s campaign. The board is prepared to go the extra mile to ensure his inclusion, even if he misses the initial matches of the tournament.
Looking Ahead
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will see top teams clash in a thrilling three-week format. India, grouped with Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, will open their campaign on February 20 against Bangladesh in Dubai.
