Australian Open: Alcaraz Secures Fourth Round With A Convincing Win

January 17, 2025: Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz continued his pursuit of a Career Grand Slam by advancing to the fourth round of the 2025 Australian Open. The 21-year-old, aiming for his first Australian Open title and his fifth Grand Slam title overall, defeated Nuno Borges in four sets: 6-2, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-2.

While Alcaraz dropped his first set of the tournament in a tie-break during the third, he dominated for much of the match. He set the tone early with a break in the opening game and was in complete control, dropping just six points on serve through the first two sets. He also converted nine out of his first 11 net points.

Borges fought back, taking the third set to a tie-break and forcing the match into a fourth set. However, Alcaraz responded strongly, losing just one point on his serve in the final set to secure the win.

After the match, Alcaraz expressed his joy about playing at the Rod Laver Arena, saying, “I missed Rod Laver (Rod Laver Arena). I am just really, really happy to be able to play here once again.” He added that he enjoys playing his best tennis and entertaining the crowd, mentioning his love for the atmosphere in Australia.

For Borges, this was his second loss to Alcaraz in their head-to-head matchups, and he was unable to replicate his fourth-round finish from last year.

Looking ahead, Alcaraz will face either Jack Draper or Aleksandar Vukic in the fourth round. A potential quarterfinal showdown with Novak Djokovic looms, and if Alcaraz continues his impressive form, he could surpass Alexander Zverev to secure the world number two ranking, although Jannik Sinner remains firmly at the top.
