India vs England 5th T20I: India Set a Mammoth Target of 248 Runs; Abhishek Sharma Smashes Historic 135, Breaks Multiple Records
February 2, 2025: Mumbai:
India’s 5th T20I against England at Wankhede Stadium will be remembered as the day Abhishek Sharma etched his name in cricketing history. The Indian opener unleashed a brutal 135 off just 54 balls, breaking multiple records, including the highest individual T20I score by an Indian batter, surpassing Shubman Gill’s 126. His century came in just 37 balls—the fastest by an Indian in T20I cricket.
Abhishek’s innings included 11 sixes and 12 boundaries, with the southpaw dominating the English bowlers. His power-hitting saw India amass their highest-ever powerplay score of 95/1 and reach 240/7 by the 19th over. Abhishek’s heroics were complemented by quick contributions from Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube.

After winning the toss, England captain Jos Buttler opted to field. Despite their best efforts, the English bowlers had no answers to India’s aggressive batting. Adil Rashid, Brydon Carse, and Mark Wood were among those punished by Abhishek’s bat.
The crowd at Wankhede erupted when Abhishek crossed the 100-run mark in just 10.1 overs, becoming the fastest Indian to do so. The applause grew louder when he overtook Shubman Gill’s record for the highest individual score by an Indian in T20Is. England players, including Jos Buttler, congratulated him as he walked back to the pavilion after his extraordinary knock.
England Captain Jos Buttler:
“We had our moments in this series, but Abhishek’s knock was just phenomenal. It’s a high-octane format, and we’re learning to adapt to such challenges.”
India Captain Suryakumar Yadav:
“Abhishek’s innings today is one for the books. We wanted to bat first, and the boys have taken responsibility beautifully. It’s a packed house tonight, and this performance is for the fans.”
