Pooran joins KL Rahul in elite club, powers Lucknow to five-wicket win with record-breaking strike rate and milestone partnership alongside Mitchell Marsh.
Hyderabad, March 28: Nicholas Pooran continues to rewrite the record books for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as he became just the second batter to cross the 1000-run mark for the franchise, following a thunderous 70 off just 26 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the latest IPL 2025 clash at Uppal Stadium.
Pooran’s explosive knock featured six sixes and four boundaries, dismantling SRH’s bowling attack and powering LSG toward their target of 191. He shared a match-defining 116-run stand with Mitchell Marsh, eclipsing the previous highest second-wicket partnership for LSG — a 111-run effort between KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda.
Though Pooran eventually fell to SRH skipper Pat Cummins after a brutal display of power-hitting, the damage was already done. His innings came at a scintillating strike rate of 269.23, and he now boasts 1002 runs in just 31 matches for LSG — behind only KL Rahul (1410 runs in 38 matches) in the all-time franchise list.
Notably, Pooran also holds the record for most 50+ scores in under 20 balls in IPL history (4), ahead of Australia’s Travis Head and Jake Fraser-McGurk (3 each). His latest half-century came in 18 balls, second only to his own record 15-ball fifty for LSG last season.
After Aiden Markram fell early, Pooran and Marsh ensured the visitors never lost momentum. Later, Abdul Samad (22* off 8) and David Miller (13*) sealed the five-wicket win in style with 23 balls to spare.
LSG’s victory strengthens their campaign while Pooran’s consistency cements his reputation as one of T20 cricket’s most destructive finishers.
