The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to soon announce the venues for the IPL 2026 playoffs and final, but uncertainty continues to loom over where the summit clash will be held.

According to sources, the playoff matches are likely to be divided between Punjab and Karnataka. However, Bengaluru—traditionally a strong contender—may miss out on hosting the final due to ongoing political complications in the state.

Bengaluru Faces Uncertainty Over Final Hosting Rights

As per IPL convention, the defending champions are usually given the opportunity to host the final. This year, that responsibility could have gone to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, issues related to political demands—particularly requests from MLAs for match tickets—have complicated matters.

A BCCI source confirmed that if the situation remains unresolved, the board may shift the final to another city.

Ticket Controversy Triggers Political Debate

The controversy began when Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar suggested that elected representatives should receive at least five IPL tickets each, arguing that MLAs are “VIPs” who should not have to queue for access.

In response, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated that MLAs and MPs would be provided with three tickets per match during the tournament.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara dismissed allegations of ticket misuse. He clarified that tickets are purchased online and are non-transferable, meaning only the buyer or their immediate family members can use them at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Playoff Race Heats Up As League Stage Intensifies

As of May 5, the IPL 2026 points table reflects a tightly contested league phase. Punjab Kings currently lead the standings with 13 points from nine matches, thanks to a strong net run rate.

Hot on their heels are Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru—all tied on 12 points, making net run rate a crucial differentiator.

In the middle of the table, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals remain in contention with eight points each.

Further down, Kolkata Knight Riders are still mathematically alive but face a challenging road ahead. Mumbai Indians, with six points from ten games, are struggling to stay in the playoff race, while Lucknow Super Giants sit at the bottom with just four points, their chances nearly over.

Final Venue Decision Awaited

With the playoff race intensifying and logistical issues still unresolved, all eyes are now on the BCCI’s final decision regarding venues. If Bengaluru fails to meet expectations due to ongoing disputes, fans could see the IPL 2026 final hosted in an alternative city.
