Kansas City: Algeria and Austria are locked at 1-1 at half-time in their crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 Group J clash at Arrowhead Stadium, with both teams currently on course to qualify for the knockout stage.

Austria took the lead through veteran striker Marko Arnautović, but Algeria responded just before the break with a brilliant equaliser from Rafik Belghali.

The goal came after Riyad Mahrez kept the ball in play with the help of the corner flag before Belghali embarked on a superb run through the Austrian defense and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Alexander Schlager with no chance.

The first half produced several exciting moments. Austria nearly restored their lead in stoppage time when Nicolas Seiwald was denied by a crucial block from Fares Chaibi before Arnautović’s header was comfortably saved by Algeria goalkeeper Benbot.

Earlier, Chaibi came within inches of leveling the score when his powerful left-footed strike crashed against the post, while Schlager also produced an outstanding save to deny Ibrahim Maza from close range.

As it stands, the draw would be enough for both Algeria and Austria to advance to the Round of 32, while Iran would be eliminated. In the other Group J fixture, Argentina hold a comfortable lead over Jordan, ensuring they remain at the top of the standings.

With qualification still at stake, an entertaining second half is expected as both teams look to secure their place in the knockout rounds.
