Google seems to be moving on from its built-in temperature sensor with the upcoming Pixel 11 Pro. This feature first arrived in 2023 with the Pixel 8 Pro. Back then, it acted mainly as a surface thermometer. Although the company later added body temperature tracking, the tool never became a major selling point for most users.

Why the Sensor Might Disappear

Early leaks of the Pixel 11 Pro reveal a change in the camera bar design. Previous models featured two distinct cutouts for sensors, but this version shows only one. This physical change strongly hints that the temperature sensor is on its way out.

Furthermore, reports suggest Google needs extra space for a new feature called “Pixel Glow.” This will allegedly consist of rear-facing LED lights. Leaked information confirms that both the Pixel 11 Pro and the Pro XL will remove the thermometer to make room for this new lighting system.

Differing User Opinions

The news has created a split among Pixel fans. Some users feel the thermometer was simply a gimmick without enough real-world uses. On the other hand, many parents have expressed frustration over the decision. Some owners rely on the sensor for quick, non-contact temperature checks and find it very helpful.

Despite these concerns, all signs point to the sensor’s removal in the next generation. While it is always possible that plans change, the current leaks seem quite solid. Google has not made an official announcement yet, but the company is likely focusing its design goals elsewhere.
