LIFESTYLE – As summer temperatures soar across India, the humble shikanji remains a national treasure for hydration. However, if you’re looking to upgrade your standard citrus routine, adding the seasonal sweetness of peaches is the perfect way to elevate your summer beverage game.

This vibrant twist on the classic lemonade doesn’t just taste like a vacation in a glass; it’s also a nutritional powerhouse. Peaches are low in calories and packed with Vitamins A and C, which are essential for skin health and immunity during the harsh summer months. They also offer a healthy dose of fiber and antioxidants, making this more than just a sugary treat.

This specific recipe, popularized by food creator Avneet Summan, strikes the perfect balance between the tartness of fresh lemons and the mellow sweetness of sun-ripened yellow peaches.

Servings: Makes a large pitcher

Ingredients

  • 4 extra-ripe yellow peaches (pitted and chopped)
  • 8–10 fresh lemons (enough for approx. 1 to 1¼ cups of juice)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp Himalayan salt (Kala Namak works great too!)
  • 6–7 cups cold water
  • Fresh ice, lemon slices, and peach wedges for garnish

Method

  1. Prepare the Puree: Place your chopped peaches, sugar, and a splash of water into a blender. Process until completely smooth. To ensure a silky texture, pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any pulp or skin.
  2. Extract the Citrus: Juice your lemons until you have at least 1 cup of fresh juice. Avoid the bottled stuff—freshness is key here!
  3. Mix: In a large chilled pitcher, combine your peach puree, lemon juice, and Himalayan salt.
  4. Dilute & Chill: Add the cold water. Start with 6 cups and taste; if the flavor is too intense, add the 7th cup.
  5. Serve: Fill tall glasses with plenty of ice, pour the lemonade over, and garnish with fresh fruit slices for that professional cafe look.

Why Add Peaches?

Aside from the flavor, peaches are highly hydrating due to their high water content. The addition of Himalayan salt helps replenish electrolytes lost through perspiration, making this an ideal drink for peak afternoon heat.
