“If You Assassinate Me, You Will Be Obliterated”: Trump’s Ultimatum to Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump warns of obliteration if Iran targets him, as he reinstates sanctions over nuclear program allegations.

February 5, 2025: Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to reinstate the “maximum pressure” policy against Iran, reviving strict sanctions in response to allegations of nuclear weapon development. Trump emphasized the need for a strong stance but expressed hope that such measures would rarely need to be used.

Speaking at the signing ceremony of a memorandum to reimpose these sanctions, Trump described the move as a difficult decision. “This is one that I’m torn about. Everybody wants me to sign it. I’ll do it. It’s very tough on Iran,” he remarked, adding, “Hopefully I’m not going to have to use it very much.”

The memorandum directs all U.S. government departments to design sanctions targeting Iran’s nuclear activities. A White House aide described this as equipping Trump with “all of the possible tools” to prevent Iran from continuing what they called “malign activities.”

Trump also made headlines with a stark warning directed at Iran, stating that any assassination attempt on him would lead to catastrophic consequences. “I’ve left instructions: if they do it, they get obliterated. There won’t be anything left,” he declared.

Despite the tough stance, Trump suggested he was open to negotiations, saying, “We’ll see whether or not we can arrange a deal with Iran, and everybody can live together.”

This move signals a return to policies from Trump’s first term, intensifying tensions in U.S.-Iran relations.
