Rajnath Singh chairs key meeting to secure Indian vessels and citizens amid rising tensions in West Asia

March 24, 2026: Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, Rajnath Singh has convened a high-level meeting to assess the evolving security situation and protect India’s strategic interests. The meeting, scheduled at Kartavya Bhavan, will bring together top defence officials, including the Chief of Defence Staff, Navy Chief, Air Force Chief, and Defence Secretary, to discuss urgent measures.

A major focus of the discussions will be the safety of Indian vessels operating in sensitive maritime zones such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf. With several Indian cargo ships and oil tankers navigating these high-risk areas, the Indian Navy has already deployed warships to escort and secure critical shipping routes, ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies.

The meeting will also review contingency plans for evacuating Indian nationals stranded in conflict-affected regions. Following earlier efforts led by Narendra Modi, thousands of citizens have already been repatriated. Officials are now expected to discuss expanding evacuation operations and strengthening maritime coordination as India prepares its response to the rapidly evolving crisis.
