F 35 and F 15 Squadrons to Strengthen Military Edge
May 3, 2026: Israel has approved a massive defence deal to acquire new fighter jets from Lockheed Martin and Boeing, aimed at strengthening its air force capabilities. The agreement includes two new combat squadrons of F-35 Lightning II and F-15IA aircraft, with deliveries expected from 2026 into the early 2030s as part of a long-term military expansion plan.
Officials said the move is part of a broader strategy to maintain air superiority and prepare for future security challenges. Defence Minister Israel Katz highlighted the importance of advanced air power, citing lessons from recent conflicts involving Iran. The deal will add a fourth F-35 squadron and a second F-15IA squadron, significantly enhancing operational capabilities and technological strength.
Israel currently operates a mix of older and modern aircraft, including F-35s and upgraded F-16s. The new acquisitions are expected to modernise the fleet further, incorporating advanced systems and extended operational reach. The expansion underscores Israel’s focus on long-term defence readiness amid evolving regional tensions.
