Amid relentless monsoon showers and forecasts of more intense rainfall, authorities have ordered the closure of several tourist attractions across parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, with Thane district imposing a complete ban on visits to outdoor destinations until further notice.
The decision comes as continuous rainfall has heightened the risk of flash floods, landslides and overflowing water bodies across the region.
Ban On Waterfalls, Forts, Dams And Rivers
Thane District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Shrikrushna Panchal, announced that visitors will not be allowed at popular tourist destinations, including:
- Waterfalls
- Forts
- Dams
- Lakes
- Rivers
- Other outdoor tourist attractions
The order follows a heavy rainfall warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Authorities said the precautionary measure has been taken to prevent accidents as slippery terrain, strong water currents and rapidly rising water levels pose a serious threat to visitors.
Authorities Urge Public To Avoid Risky Travel
District officials have appealed to residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable locations and cooperate with disaster management agencies.
People have specifically been advised not to venture near rivers, reservoirs or waterfalls, where water levels can rise suddenly during heavy rainfall.
Emergency response teams have been placed on alert, while local authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather situation closely.
Heavy Rain Disrupts Normal Life
Persistent monsoon showers have affected normal life across Mumbai, Thane and neighbouring districts.
Several low-lying areas have reported waterlogging, while intermittent disruptions have been witnessed on both road and rail networks due to continuous rainfall.
Authorities are urging commuters to exercise caution and avoid travel unless necessary during periods of intense rainfall.
Restrictions To Continue Until Further Orders
Officials said the restrictions will remain in force until weather conditions improve and fresh instructions are issued by the district administration.
Residents have been advised to stay updated through official announcements issued by district authorities and the IMD and follow all safety advisories as the monsoon continues to impact the region.
