Airline’s map showing J&K and Ladakh as part of Pakistan triggers backlash and boycott calls
April 30, 2026: Nepal Airlines has come under fire after sharing a route map on social media that incorrectly depicted Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as part of Pakistan. The post quickly sparked outrage among Indian users, leading to widespread criticism online. The airline later issued an apology, describing the error as a “cartographic inaccuracy,” but the clarification failed to immediately ease tensions.
The controversy escalated rapidly on social media platforms, with boycott calls gaining traction. Many users urged India’s Ministry of External Affairs to take up the matter diplomatically. Among those reacting strongly was Khesari Lal Yadav, who questioned whether the mistake was deliberate and called it a serious provocation. Some users also demanded restrictions on the airline’s operations in Indian airspace, reflecting heightened public sentiment.
The row comes amid sensitive diplomatic ties between India and Nepal. Political observers have linked the controversy to evolving dynamics in Nepal’s leadership, including the rise of Balendra Shah. While the airline has apologised, the incident has intensified concerns over bilateral relations and added to ongoing political discourse in the region.
