Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured a top-two finish in the IPL 2026 points table after crossing the crucial 166-run mark against Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high-scoring clash in Hyderabad on Friday.

Chasing a massive target of 256, RCB reached 185/4 after 19 overs, with captain Rajat Patidar and all-rounder Krunal Pandya unbeaten at the crease.

The result ensured that Bengaluru confirmed a coveted top-two finish regardless of the final outcome of the match, giving them two chances to qualify for the IPL 2026 final during the playoffs.

Venkatesh Iyer Provides Explosive Start For RCB

Opening the innings, Venkatesh Iyer gave RCB early momentum with a blazing knock of 44 runs off just 19 deliveries.

The left-hander attacked from the outset, taking on SRH’s bowlers with aggressive strokeplay and keeping Bengaluru ahead of the required scoring rate early in the chase.

RCB’s batting approach reflected their determination not just to chase the total but also to secure the all-important net run rate advantage needed for a top-two spot.

Rajat Patidar Anchors The Chase With Captain’s Knock

Captain Rajat Patidar once again stepped up in a pressure situation, bringing up a well-compiled half-century to stabilise the innings after the early wickets.

Patidar combined composure with calculated aggression, ensuring that RCB remained comfortably above the qualification threshold throughout the chase.

His partnership with Krunal Pandya helped Bengaluru avoid a late collapse despite the steep target.

SRH Batters Earlier Produced Another Run Fest

Earlier in the evening, Sunrisers Hyderabad continued their fearless batting template and piled up a mammoth 255/4 in 20 overs.

Ishan Kishan top-scored with a sensational 79 off 46 balls, while Abhishek Sharma gave SRH a flying start with a destructive 56 off just 22 deliveries.

Middle-order powerhouse Heinrich Klaasen then added further carnage with a blistering 51 off 24 balls.

The Hyderabad batters once again dominated at home, smashing boundaries consistently and maintaining one of the highest scoring rates of the tournament.

SRH Needed Massive Win Margin

Coming into the contest, SRH needed to defeat RCB by at least 90 runs to affect Bengaluru’s top-two hopes significantly.

However, RCB’s aggressive chase and early crossing of the 166-run mark officially ended those calculations and confirmed their strong playoff position.

The match nevertheless turned into another batting spectacle in IPL 2026, with both teams producing fearless strokeplay on a batting-friendly Hyderabad surface.
