The wife of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs rests at Niranjini Akhara camp, plans to perform sacred dip at the Sangam during Maha Kumbh 2025.
January 14, 2025: Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, has been attending the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, despite developing allergies during her second day at the event. The spiritual gathering, one of the world's largest, marks a celestial event that occurs once every 144 years.

Powell Jobs, who reached Prayagraj on Monday after visiting the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi, plans to participate in the sacred dip ritual at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. She is staying at the Niranjini Akhara camp under the guidance of spiritual leader Swami Kailashanand Giri.

“She has some allergies and has never been to such a crowded place,” Swami Giri told ANI. "Despite that, she will take part in the ritual of the sacred dip. She stayed with us during the pooja and is simple and humble in her demeanor."

Swami Giri also revealed that Powell Jobs has been given the name "Kamala" during her stay. She is expected to return to the US on January 15 to attend President-elect Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony on January 20.
Sacred Rituals at Maha Kumbh
The Maha Kumbh’s first Amrit Snan (holy bath) took place on Tuesday, with an estimated 3-4 crore devotees participating at the Triveni Sangam. The event also saw the participation of sadhus from 13 akhadas (religious sects) divided into three groups—Shaivite (Sanyasi), Vaishnavite (Bairagi), and Udaseen.
Maha Kumbh 2025, also referred to as Poorna Kumbh, is scheduled to continue until February 26. Key dates for the upcoming holy dips include January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), February 3 (Basant Panchami), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
Significance of Maha Kumbh
Held every 12 years at one of four locations in India, the Maha Kumbh is considered one of the most significant religious gatherings globally. This year’s event has drawn millions of pilgrims, saints, and international visitors, all seeking spiritual fulfillment.
