Authorities have identified Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from Torrance, as the man taken into custody following the shooting incident near the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
The event was attended by Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump when the violent episode unfolded, prompting a swift security response.
Investigators are now examining Allen’s background and online behaviour to better understand possible motives behind the attack.
Social Media Activity Reveals Political Anger
According to reports cited by CNN, Allen had shared several controversial posts on social media platforms over the years.
His posts reportedly included comparisons between Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler, as well as messages encouraging critics of Trump’s presidency to purchase firearms.
Authorities said the tone of his online activity ranged widely—from casual gaming-related posts to increasingly hostile political commentary.
Investigators also noted that Allen allegedly sent messages to family members before the incident outlining grievances against officials in the Trump administration and discussing plans to target government figures.
Law enforcement sources told media outlets that Allen displayed clear “animosity” toward Trump and his administration in his posts.
From Gaming Content To Political Messaging
Earlier social media activity showed a different focus. In 2022, Allen primarily shared gaming-related content and encouraged followers to visit his YouTube channel.
The channel featured videos related to the popular Super Smash Bros. franchise. However, authorities confirmed that the channel has since been taken down.
Over time, his posts shifted toward political messaging. By 2024, Allen was repeatedly reposting content comparing Trump to Hitler and sharing commentary questioning election outcomes.
Following an earlier attempted assassination on Trump in Pennsylvania, Allen reportedly shared posts suggesting the incident may have been staged.
Increasing Criticism During Trump’s Second Term
During Donald Trump’s second presidential term, Allen became active on the social platform Bluesky, where he frequently posted criticism of the administration.
One post reportedly described Trump in harsh terms and expressed frustration with what Allen viewed as a lack of opposition to government actions.
In March, Allen wrote messages suggesting that political tensions in the United States could lead to internal conflict, reflecting growing anger in his posts.
Meanwhile, Todd Blanche confirmed that investigators are examining possible links between Allen and political groups.
Authorities are also reviewing whether his online rhetoric had any connection to his alleged actions.
Students Shocked By Tutor’s Arrest
Despite his online activity, people who interacted with Allen offline described him as relatively ordinary.
Allen reportedly worked as a part-time tutor in Los Angeles, where several students expressed shock after learning of his arrest.
Those who knew him in academic settings said his online behaviour did not appear to match his in-person interactions.
Investigation Continues Into Shooting Details
Authorities are continuing to piece together the exact sequence of events from the evening of the shooting.
Officials allege that Allen breached a security barrier during the incident, raising concerns about how close he came to high-profile attendees.
Jeanine Pirro stated that additional charges are expected as investigators gather more evidence.
Meanwhile, officials are awaiting the results of ballistic analysis to determine how many shots were fired and whether any of Allen’s bullets struck a United States Secret Service agent’s protective vest.
The findings from ongoing forensic analysis are expected to play a key role in determining the next steps in the legal process.
