Young Rajasthan Royals prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again delivered a fiery start, showcasing his fearless batting in the IPL clash against Punjab Kings on Tuesday.
Chasing a daunting target of 223, the 15-year-old dazzled with a stunning 43 off just 16 balls, smashing five sixes and three boundaries. His fearless approach has quickly become a trademark, and Tuesday’s innings was yet another example of his remarkable power-hitting ability at such a young age.
With those five sixes, Sooryavanshi now has 99 sixes in T20 cricket, achieved in just 511 balls across 27 innings. He is now just one six away from reaching the landmark of 100 T20 sixes.
The current record for the fastest to 100 T20 sixes is held by Kieron Pollard, who reached the milestone in 843 balls. If Sooryavanshi maintains his current pace, breaking that record appears inevitable — the only question remaining is when it will happen.
Marcus Stoinis Leads Punjab Kings’ Late Surge With Blistering Knock
Earlier in the match, Marcus Stoinis produced a powerful batting display that helped Punjab Kings post a commanding total of 222 for 4.
Stoinis remained unbeaten on 62 off just 22 balls, smashing six sixes and four fours in a brutal display of finishing. His late assault proved decisive, especially as Punjab piled up 55 runs in the final three overs, leaving the Rajasthan Royals bowlers struggling for answers.
Before Stoinis’ fireworks, Punjab’s top-order batters laid a solid platform:
- Prabhsimran Singh scored 59 off 44 balls, including six fours and a six.
- Priyansh Arya made a quick 29 off 11 balls, featuring five boundaries and one six.
- Cooper Connolly contributed 30 off 14 balls, striking three sixes and two fours.
Although all three batters showed attacking intent, none converted their starts into a truly dominant innings on a pitch that offered good bounce.
RR Bowlers Struggle As Late Overs Turn Costly
The Rajasthan Royals bowling attack struggled to contain the scoring in the final overs, particularly inexperienced pacer Brijesh Sharma, whose variations failed to trouble the Punjab batters.
He conceded 42 runs in his four overs, including 24 runs in the final over, allowing Punjab to push their total well beyond 200.
Even experienced pacer Jofra Archer was unable to fully contain Stoinis, finishing with figures of 1 for 40.
Young Leg-Spinner Yash Raj Impresses Despite Pressure
Amid the heavy scoring, Rajasthan Royals found a bright spot in young leg-spinner Yash Raj Punja, who delivered an encouraging performance.
Standing at 6 feet 4 inches, the spinner relied on variation and clever changes in pace to trouble the batters. He claimed 2 wickets for 41 runs in four overs, successfully breaking partnerships at key moments.
He dismissed Connolly by flighting the ball outside off stump, tempting him into a risky shot that resulted in a catch at long-off by Donovan Ferreira.
Later, he removed Prabhsimran Singh by slowing the delivery, luring him into an ambitious shot that was safely caught by Riyan Parag.
Match Context: Power Hitting Dominates On Bouncy Surface
The pitch offered noticeable bounce, which suited aggressive stroke play. Punjab Kings batters capitalised on length deliveries that fell within their hitting arc, particularly during the death overs.
Despite Rajasthan Royals’ efforts to vary pace and flight, the final overs saw the momentum shift entirely in Punjab’s favour, largely due to Stoinis’ brute power and precise hitting.
