Delhi Capitals face a setback after Lungi Ngidi’s injury, while Mitchell Starc’s return offers hope ahead of key IPL fixtures.

April 28, 2026: Lungi Ngidi gave Delhi Capitals a major scare during their IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings after suffering a heavy fall while attempting a catch. Backtracking to judge a lofted shot from Priyansh Arya, Ngidi lost balance and hit his head hard on the ground, leading to a lengthy stoppage. Medical teams rushed in, and the pacer was stretchered off and taken to hospital. Vipraj Nigam came in as a concussion substitute.

Although Ngidi was later discharged and initial reports ruled out serious complications, he has not returned to action yet. He missed Delhi’s next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and remains doubtful for the upcoming game against Rajasthan Royals. As per guidelines linked to the International Cricket Council, players recovering from concussion are typically advised a minimum rest period, keeping Ngidi out as a precaution.

However, there is a silver lining for Delhi as Mitchell Starc is likely to return soon. The Australian pacer has rejoined the squad and could feature in the next match, potentially strengthening DC’s bowling attack. As the tournament enters a crucial phase, Ngidi’s recovery and Starc’s comeback could significantly impact Delhi’s campaign.
