While the global billionaire count hit a record high in 2025, big names like Lisa Su, Sara Liu, and Nicolas Puech slipped off the list, losing their billionaire status.
April 2, 2025: In a year when the world saw a record number of billionaires—3,028 individuals with a combined fortune of $16.1 trillion—not everyone managed to hold onto their coveted spots on the Forbes Billionaires List. According to the 2025 edition, 107 individuals lost their billionaire status, slipping below the threshold needed to remain on the prestigious roster.

Here are some of the most notable names who dropped off the list this year:
Lisa Su – Tech Titan Turned Cautionary Tale

Lisa Su, the visionary CEO of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), had led one of the most impressive corporate turnarounds in recent tech history. Under her leadership, AMD’s stock rose nearly 40-fold by early 2024. Despite her achievements, a volatile tech market and declining valuations saw Su fall short of billionaire status this year.
Born in Taiwan and raised in New York, Su boasts academic credentials from MIT and had previously worked at IBM, Texas Instruments, and Freescale. She remains a powerful figure in the semiconductor world, but her net worth didn’t survive the recalibration in market fortunes.

Sara Liu – Server Giant’s Quiet Force Fades Out

Co-founder of Super Micro Computer Inc. (Supermicro), Sara Liu was once a major force behind one of Nvidia’s key hardware partners. Alongside her husband and company CEO Charles Liang, Liu helped build Supermicro into a server solutions powerhouse.
Though the company has performed well, market corrections and shifting investor sentiment nudged Liu’s fortune below the billionaire mark in 2025.
Nicolas Puech – Hermes Heir Off the Fashion Billionaire Runway

As a descendant of the Hermes empire’s founder, Nicolas Puech once held significant sway over the luxury fashion brand. Although he stepped down from the supervisory board in 2014, he retained a small but valuable stake.
However, Puech’s net worth has reportedly dwindled, and he has now exited the billionaire club. His fall from the list underscores the unpredictability of wealth—even in the legacy-rich world of European luxury.
Billionaire Boom Despite the Exits
Despite these high-profile exits, the overall billionaire count rose dramatically in 2025. A total of 288 newcomers entered the list, including household names like Bruce Springsteen ($1.2 billion), Arnold Schwarzenegger ($1.1 billion), and Jerry Seinfeld ($1.1 billion).
Elon Musk Breaks Records
At the top of the wealth chart, Elon Musk’s fortune skyrocketed 75%, hitting $342 billion—making him the first person in history to surpass the $300 billion mark.
The 2025 list reaffirms the dynamic nature of global wealth. As new billionaires rise, others are reminded just how quickly fortunes can change.
