Tesla CEO Elon Musk forms new ‘American Party’ after slamming Trump-backed “Big Beautiful Bill,” calling the current U.S. political system a “one-party state, not a democracy.”
Washington DC [US], July 6: Tesla CEO Elon Musk has officially announced the formation of a new political faction — the American Party — aimed at “giving U.S. citizens their freedom back,” as he escalates his public feud with President Donald Trump over the recently signed “Big Beautiful Bill.” Musk made the declaration on Saturday (local time) via his social media platform X, decrying what he called a corrupt and monolithic U.S. political landscape and vowing to offer Americans a true alternative.
The declaration followed an online poll conducted by Musk on X, where 65% of users voted in favor of him launching a new party. Buoyed by the support, Musk wasted no time moving forward with the idea.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the American Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” Musk posted.
The announcement has sparked a fresh wave of speculation in political circles, especially amid rising tension between Musk and Trump. The feud reached a new peak following the passage of the controversial “Big Beautiful Bill” — a massive legislation package signed by Trump on July 4th, touted as a major win for the administration.
The bill, which includes sweeping tax cuts, Pentagon funding increases, and enhanced border security, passed narrowly in Congress and drew immediate criticism from fiscal conservatives and tech leaders alike. Musk, in particular, slammed the bill as reckless and damaging to the country’s financial stability.
Since the bill’s passage, Musk has made it clear he will actively oppose Republican incumbents who supported the legislation. He explicitly voiced support for Representative Thomas Massie, one of the few Republicans who voted against the bill.
While Musk has not yet released a formal political platform for the American Party, his early remarks suggest a blend of libertarian values, fiscal conservatism, and tech-driven reform. The billionaire entrepreneur’s rhetoric has focused heavily on personal freedom, government transparency, and breaking the dominance of the two-party system.
Critics have noted that while Musk’s influence on social and financial platforms is undeniable, creating a viable political party in the U.S. remains a formidable task, given institutional hurdles, ballot access challenges, and partisan voter loyalties.
Still, political analysts believe Musk’s entry into formal politics could disrupt traditional alliances — particularly among younger voters, tech-savvy demographics, and libertarian-leaning conservatives disillusioned with both Republicans and Democrats.
Musk’s feud with Trump also appears to be more than just ideological. The former Dogecoin proponent and SpaceX founder has repeatedly clashed with Trump on policy, personality, and economic outlooks. Their latest public spat adds fuel to speculation that Musk is eyeing a long-term political role, if not a future presidential run.
As of now, Musk has yet to outline a full strategic roadmap or name potential candidates under the American Party banner, but sources close to the entrepreneur suggest that announcements could follow in the coming weeks.
