Russian President acknowledges global mediation efforts, expresses gratitude to world leaders including Trump, Modi, and Lula

Moscow [Russia], March 14: Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken publicly for the first time on Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate a ceasefire, expressing appreciation for global mediation efforts. He acknowledged US President Donald Trump, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for their contributions to addressing the ongoing conflict.

During a joint press conference with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Putin stated that Russia agrees with the ceasefire proposal but emphasized that the cessation of hostilities must “lead to long-term peace and eliminate the root causes of the crisis.”

🌍 Putin Thanks Global Leaders for Their Role in Mediation

Putin extended his gratitude to leaders who have played an active role in seeking a peaceful resolution.

“I want to thank the President of the United States, Mr. Trump, for paying so much attention to the Ukraine settlement,” Putin said. “Many leaders, including the Prime Minister of India, the Presidents of China, Brazil, and South Africa, have devoted significant time to this matter. We are grateful to all of them for their efforts in working towards the noble mission of ending hostilities and loss of life.”

🇷🇺 Putin’s Take on Ukraine’s Readiness for Ceasefire

When asked about Ukraine’s recent decision to accept a US-proposed 30-day ceasefire, Putin suggested that the decision may have been influenced by pressure from the United States following discussions in Saudi Arabia.

“On the surface, the US-Ukraine meeting in Saudi Arabia may appear as if the Ukrainian side was pressured into accepting a ceasefire,” Putin said. “However, I am convinced that the Ukrainian side itself strongly pushed for this decision due to the evolving situation on the ground.”

🇺🇦 Ukraine’s Ceasefire Agreement and Global Reactions

On March 11, Ukraine expressed willingness to accept a temporary 30-day ceasefire, which could be extended by mutual agreement if Russia also consents.

US President Donald Trump welcomed the move and expressed hope that Russia would agree to the ceasefire as well, calling the war a “horrible” and unnecessary loss of lives.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated India’s stance that the conflict should be resolved diplomatically, not militarily. “India is not neutral; we are on the side of peace,” Modi said. “I have always maintained that war is not the solution and that negotiations must be the way forward.”

🇮🇳 PM Modi’s Role in Peace Talks

PM Modi has been actively engaging with both Russia and Ukraine in recent years.

✔️ He met with Russian President Putin during the 22nd India-Russia Bilateral Summit in July last year.
✔️ He visited Ukraine in August to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
✔️ He has consistently advocated for diplomatic solutions, famously telling Putin, ‘This is not an era of war.’

“India believes that solutions to conflicts must be found through dialogue and diplomacy. The battlefield will not provide the answers,” Modi emphasized. He also welcomed Trump’s mediation efforts, hoping they would lead to a lasting resolution.

⏳ What’s Next? A Critical Moment for Peace

With global leaders pushing for a ceasefire and Russia’s response still unfolding, the coming days will be crucial in determining whether Putin will formally agree to halt hostilities. The world watches as negotiations continue, hoping for a diplomatic breakthrough that could end two years of war.
