Geetanjali J. Angmo claims Wangchuk was taken to Safdarjung Hospital without consent and says the planned July 20 march to Parliament will proceed.
July 18, 2026: Activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Geetanjali J. Angmo, on Saturday said he remains on an indefinite hunger strike despite being admitted to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. She alleged that Wangchuk was taken from Jantar Mantar by Delhi Police without informing either him or his family and asserted that the planned march to Parliament on July 20 would go ahead as scheduled. Angmo said she would lead the march if Wangchuk was unable to participate.
Speaking to reporters, Angmo questioned the circumstances surrounding his hospitalisation, claiming doctors had found his vital parameters normal on Friday evening but later informed the family that his potassium level had dropped to a life-threatening level. She also alleged that the hospital did not provide the relevant medical reports when requested. According to her, Wangchuk has refused electrolyte supplements and continues his fast, maintaining that the Delhi High Court had directed only regular health monitoring and not hospitalisation.
Meanwhile, Safdarjung Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Charu Bamba said Wangchuk was admitted around 7:40 am and was experiencing mild dehydration and weakness due to prolonged fasting, but his vital parameters were stable. The hospital said he is under continuous observation and receiving treatment. Separately, Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke, who began an indefinite hunger strike after Wangchuk’s removal, shared a video showing blue ink being thrown at him and remarked on social media, “Blue is my colour… Jai Bhim!”
