According to police, the accused was taken into custody within 24 hours of the incident and later sent to judicial custody.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) and the state's Home Secretary over allegations that police used excessive force during a protest in Meerut.
