If you are planning to visit a bank today (July 6), it is advisable to check whether your local branch is open before heading out. While banks are functioning normally across most parts of India, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has declared bank holidays in select states to mark regional observances.
Customers should note that digital banking services, including UPI, internet banking, mobile banking and ATMs, will continue to operate without any interruption. However, physical bank branches will remain closed in specific locations.
Banks Closed In These States Today
According to the RBI’s official holiday calendar, banks are closed on July 6 in the following places:
- Aizawl, Mizoram – On the occasion of Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) Day
- Kolkata, West Bengal – To observe the birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee
Customers in these regions are advised to plan their branch visits accordingly.
Why Is MHIP Day Celebrated?
Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) is one of the largest women’s organisations in Mizoram. The organisation has played a significant role in promoting women’s welfare, education, social reforms and community development across the state.
MHIP Day is observed as an important regional holiday in Mizoram, and banks remain closed across the state to mark the occasion.
Why Is Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s Birth Anniversary Observed?
Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee was a noted educationist, lawyer and politician who served as India’s first Minister for Industry and Supply after Independence. He later founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the political party that eventually evolved into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
