The upcoming Jeep SUV will be developed and manufactured in India before being exported to more than 50 international markets. Reports suggest the SUV will be based on Tata Motors’ ARGOS architecture, the same platform used for the recently introduced Tata Sierra.

Tata Sierra’s ARGOS Platform To Support New Jeep SUV

The new Jeep SUV is expected to use Tata’s ARGOS platform, which stands for All-Terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable. The architecture has been designed to support multiple body styles along with petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains.

The flexible nature of the platform is expected to help Jeep reduce development costs while making the SUV suitable for both Indian and overseas markets.

AWD Capability Played A Big Role

One of the key reasons behind Jeep selecting the ARGOS platform is its compatibility with all-wheel-drive systems. Since off-road capability remains one of Jeep’s biggest strengths, the new SUV is likely to offer at least one AWD variant.

The platform has already been engineered to handle multiple drivetrain configurations, making it a strong base for a rugged Jeep product.

Jeep To Get Its Own Design Identity

Even though the new SUV will share its underpinnings with the Tata Sierra, Jeep is expected to completely redesign the vehicle to match its own brand identity.

Reports indicate that the SUV will feature Jeep-specific exterior styling, a unique cabin layout, different suspension tuning and brand-focused engineering changes. Buyers can expect the SUV to carry Jeep’s signature rugged look and driving feel despite sharing its platform with a Tata product.

Engine Options Could Include Tata’s 1.5L Turbo Petrol

The new Jeep SUV is likely to use Tata Motors’ 1.5-litre TGDi turbo-petrol engine. The same engine is expected to power future Tata models including the Sierra, Harrier and Safari.

An electric version of the SUV could also arrive later thanks to the multi-energy capability of the ARGOS platform. However, diesel engine options appear unlikely at this stage.

Production In India, Exports Worldwide

The upcoming Jeep SUV is expected to be produced at the Ranjangaon plant near Pune, which operates under the Tata-Stellantis joint venture.

Apart from the Indian market, the SUV is also expected to be exported to several global regions including Asia-Pacific, Africa, South America and the Middle East. The global debut of the model is currently expected sometime in 2028.
