The promotional campaign for Sanjay Dutt’s highly anticipated courtroom drama, Aakhri Sawal, has hit a sudden snag. Originally scheduled to drop today, Thursday, April 30, 2026, the official trailer has been indefinitely postponed following “pending clearance” from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Despite the film being slated for a global theatrical release on May 8, 2026, the makers are currently locked in discussions with the censors to navigate requested modifications, leaving fans in a state of flux.

The Censor Dispute: Why the Hold-Up?

According to industry insiders, the CBFC has raised concerns regarding the film’s sensitive historical and political content. The teaser for Aakhri Sawal has already piqued interest by referencing heavy-hitting historical events, including the ban following Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination and the Babri Masjid demolition. The narrative is inspired by the 100-year journey of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), focusing on its 1925 founding by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. Reportedly, the board has asked for specific cuts or “contextual changes” to ensure the portrayal of these socio-political milestones adheres to broadcasting guidelines.

A Powerful Narrative and Stellar Cast

Directed by National Award-winner Abhijeet Mohan Warang, known for the acclaimed Marathi film Picasso, Aakhri Sawal aims to go beyond the textbooks. It explores a pivotal, lesser-known meeting that reportedly altered India’s socio-political trajectory.

  • The Ensemble: The film boasts a powerhouse cast including Amit Sadh, Namashi Chakraborty, Sameera Reddy, Tridha Choudhury, and Neetu Chandra.
  • Production: The project is a collaboration between Nikhil Nanda Motion Pictures and Sanjay Dutt’s own Neem Tree Entertainment, with a script penned by Utkarsh Naithani.

Sanjay Dutt’s Busy Season: From Courtrooms to ‘Khalnayak’

The trailer delay comes amidst a massive wave of nostalgia for the veteran actor. Just last week, on April 24, Dutt officially announced Khalnayak Returns, reviving his iconic character “Ballu” after 33 years. While Khalnayak Returns is in its early stages, the immediate focus remains on Aakhri Sawal. Producers are reportedly working around the clock to secure the censor certificate by the weekend to ensure the trailer can launch at least a week before the film hits the big screen. For now, the “Aakhri Sawal” remains: will the film meet its May 8 deadline?
