Actor Aamir Khan has strongly dismissed allegations linking his marriages to the controversial “Love Jihad” narrative, stating that religion has never influenced his personal relationships. Addressing the ongoing debate surrounding his recent marriage to Gauri Spratt, the actor clarified that none of his partners converted to Islam and that all of his marriages were civil unions based on mutual respect and personal choice.

Speaking during an interaction with Rediff, Aamir responded to criticism from some political leaders and social media users who questioned his marriages to non-Muslim women. The actor said, “Neither Gauri, Kiran nor Reena converted their religion, as we had civil marriages. Gauri is not even Hindu, she is Christian, and not even a practising Christian at that. Life is getting more comical as time passes.”

Aamir emphasized that religion has never dictated the course of his family life. He pointed to his own family’s long history of interfaith marriages, saying that inclusivity has always been a defining value. “Both my sisters are married to Hindus; my daughter is also married to a Hindu. My cousin Mansoor is married to a Christian,” he said, underscoring that relationships within his family have always transcended religious boundaries.

The actor’s remarks come amid heightened public discussion following his marriage to wellness and beauty professional Gauri Spratt in an intimate ceremony held at his residence in Mumbai’s Bandra on July 5. The wedding reignited online debates, with some critics attempting to link the marriage to the “Love Jihad” narrative, a claim Aamir has firmly rejected.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that a fatwa has been issued against Aamir Khan by Shahi Chief Mufti Maulana Chaudhary Ibrahim Husain of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta in Uttar Pradesh, who reportedly objected to the marriage on religious grounds. Separately, Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Nitesh Rane also criticized the actor’s marriage, questioning whether it should be viewed through the lens of “Love Jihad.”

Before marrying Gauri Spratt, Aamir Khan was married to Reena Dutta from 1986 to 2002 and later to filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005. Although Aamir and Kiran announced their separation in 2021, the two have maintained an amicable relationship and continue to co-parent their son. Through his latest remarks, the actor reiterated that his personal life has always been guided by individual choice, mutual respect, and inclusivity rather than religious identity.
