Actor Akansha Ranjan Kapoor has opened up about the challenges of breaking stereotypes in the entertainment industry, revealing how her glamorous public image often worked against her when auditioning for diverse roles. The actress, who is gearing up for the release of Gram Chikitsalay 2, says the industry frequently relies on familiar perceptions rather than exploring an actor’s versatility.

Reflecting on her experiences, Akansha noted that casting decisions are often influenced by preconceived notions about actors. She believes performers are frequently chosen based on the kind of roles they have previously portrayed rather than their ability to transform into new characters.

The actress shared that she had to work hard to prove herself capable of playing more grounded and rooted roles. Despite being told during auditions that filmmakers were looking for a different type of performer, she often felt she could have convincingly portrayed many of the roles that eventually went to others.

Akansha also spoke about the audition process, suggesting that casting decisions are sometimes made well before auditions take place. According to her, filmmakers often have preferred choices in mind, making auditions feel like a formality in certain cases. She added that actors would appreciate clearer communication when they are not selected for a role.

Discussing the reluctance some actors have toward auditions, Akansha praised actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas for her determination while establishing herself in Hollywood. She highlighted how Priyanka embraced the audition process despite being one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, understanding that she had to rebuild her career and reputation in a new industry from the ground up.

Akansha said Priyanka’s willingness to audition without letting ego get in the way serves as an example for aspiring actors. She emphasized that success in one market does not automatically translate to another, making humility and persistence essential qualities for growth.

The actress also rejected the notion that actors must abandon glamour to be taken seriously. Pointing to legendary stars like Kajol and Madhuri Dixit, she argued that performers can balance commercial success, glamour, and strong acting credentials simultaneously.

According to Akansha, an actor’s responsibility is to portray a wide range of characters, whether glamorous or understated, depending on the demands of the story. She believes talent should be measured by versatility rather than appearance.

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor will next be seen in Gram Chikitsalay 2, which premieres on Prime Video on June 23.
