What was initially believed to be a tragic trekking accident at Lohagad Fort has now turned into a murder investigation

June 23, 2026: A 26-year-old man’s death during a trek at Maharashtra’s Lohagad Fort has taken a dramatic turn after police alleged that the incident was a planned murder rather than an accident. Ketan Vishal Agarwal died on June 19 after falling nearly 350 feet into a gorge while celebrating his fiancée Siya Goyal’s birthday with friends. The couple was reportedly set to marry next month. Initially treated as an accidental death, the case was reopened after investigators found inconsistencies in witness statements and other evidence.

According to police, the investigation uncovered an alleged relationship between Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary. Authorities claim Siya did not want to proceed with her arranged marriage to Ketan and wanted to continue her relationship with Chetan. Investigators allege that the two viewed Ketan as an obstacle and plotted to eliminate him. Police further claim that an earlier attempt to push Ketan into a valley during a trek on June 14 failed, prompting them to allegedly plan another outing to Lohagad Fort on June 19.

Investigators believe Siya persuaded Ketan to join the fatal trek, where Chetan was also present. Police allege the pair pushed Ketan into the gorge and attempted to portray the incident as an accident. The revelations have left Ketan’s family devastated, especially as wedding preparations were already underway. Authorities have confirmed that both Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary have been detained, while the investigation continues to determine the full extent of the alleged conspiracy.
