Annu Kapoor Defends ‘Dudhiya Badan’ Remark, Says Indians Are Still ‘Mentally British Slaves’

Veteran actor Annu Kapoor has once again defended his controversial “dudhiya badan” remark about actress Tamannaah Bhatia, arguing that the backlash reflects a mindset still influenced by colonial attitudes. Rejecting allegations of misogyny and objectification, Kapoor insisted that he has never disrespected women and maintained that the phrase was unfairly criticised simply because it was spoken in Hindi.

Speaking in an interview with Zoom, Kapoor addressed the criticism surrounding his comment and questioned why similar expressions in English often escape scrutiny.

“People have no issues when cuss words are said in English. It seems to spark controversy when it’s said in Hindi. People have no issues with ‘milky body,’ but with ‘dudhiya badan’,” he said.

The actor went on to argue that India’s colonial past continues to shape public perception.

“We had been slaves to the British for 250 years. On August 15, 1947, we gained only political freedom. We are still British slaves mentally,” Kapoor said while defending his statement.

Says He Never Disrespects Women

Responding to criticism that his comments objectified Tamannaah, Kapoor strongly denied that he intended any disrespect.

“I would be the last person on this earth to show any disrespect to any man or woman. If there’s a traitor, I wouldn’t disrespect him. But I would pray that I could murder him,” he said.

Despite standing by his remarks, Kapoor added that he would apologise to Tamannaah if she personally felt offended.

The Controversial ‘Dudhiya Badan’ Comment

The controversy dates back to last year when Kapoor appeared on journalist Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube show. During a discussion about Tamannaah’s hit song “Aaj Ki Raat”, the host asked the veteran actor whether he liked the performance.

Kapoor responded by praising Tamannaah’s appearance, saying:

“Mashallah kya dudhiya badan hai.”

He further added:

“Behen, apne gaane se, aapne shareer se, apne dudhiya chehre se humare bacchon ko sulaati hain… Bahut achi baat hai.. Desh ke upar kripa hogi agar humare desh ke bacch achi aur swasth neend soyein. Agar aur bhi kuch ichcha hain toh bhagwan unko samarth karre ke unki ichcha puri hun.”

The remarks sparked widespread criticism on social media, with many users accusing the actor of objectifying Tamannaah.

Tamannaah’s Earlier Response to ‘Milky Beauty’ Tag

Although Tamannaah did not directly respond to Kapoor’s remarks, she had previously spoken about being labelled a “milky beauty” while promoting her supernatural thriller Odela 2.

Addressing the stereotype, the actress said:

“You are saying milky beauty but why you looked at a milky beauty and thought that she can’t be a Shiva Shakti? Your question has the answer in it. He [Ashok Teja] does not look at milky beauty that is to be ashamed of or feel bad about. Glamour in a woman is to be celebrated, and we women must celebrate ourselves. Then we can expect other people to celebrate us. If we look at ourselves in a certain way, then nobody can respect us.”

Tamannaah’s chartbuster dance number “Aaj Ki Raat” became one of the biggest hits of the year, earning widespread praise for her performance and helping cement the song’s popularity across digital platforms.
