David Dhawan’s upcoming comedy entertainer Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde, has reportedly undergone multiple modifications after suggestions from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

According to reports, the CBFC asked the makers to make several edits in the film before granting it a U/A 16+ certificate ahead of its theatrical release on June 5, 2026.

CBFC Asked Makers To Modify Certain Scenes

As per reports, the CBFC’s Examining Committee requested changes to a few dialogues and visuals that were considered inappropriate or overly suggestive.

The reported modifications include:

  • Replacing a word used repeatedly in four scenes with a more suitable term
  • Removing or replacing a vulgar hand gesture
  • Blurring the name of a condom brand shown in one scene
  • Muting references linked to flavours mentioned on the packet

In another scene, visuals featuring the names of international cricketers Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes were reportedly shortened to six seconds.

The board also allegedly asked the makers to adjust a dance sequence by zooming further into the upper body and face area of female dancers after undergarments were visible in the original version.

Film Receives U/A 16+ Certificate

After the requested modifications were completed, the film reportedly received its censor certificate on May 27, 2026.

The official runtime of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is said to be 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 40 seconds.

The film has already generated strong buzz online through its trailer, songs, and promotional campaigns.

Release Date Changed Multiple Times

Interestingly, the release plans for the film reportedly went through several changes.

The movie was initially scheduled to release on June 5, 2026. However, to avoid a box office clash with Toxic, the makers briefly shifted the release date to May 22.

Later, after Toxic got delayed, the team decided to return to the original June 5 release date.

David Dhawan’s Final Directorial Film

The comedy entertainer holds additional emotional value for fans because it is reportedly David Dhawan’s final film as a director.

Known for delivering some of Bollywood’s biggest comedy hits over the decades, David Dhawan has directed several iconic entertainers featuring stars like Govinda, Salman Khan, and now his son Varun Dhawan.

Fans of the filmmaker are eagerly waiting to see his signature comedy style return to theatres one last time.

Star Cast And Expectations

Alongside Varun Dhawan, the film features:

  • Mrunal Thakur
  • Pooja Hegde
  • Mouni Roy
  • Several supporting actors in comic roles

With colourful songs, over-the-top comedy, and classic David Dhawan-style entertainment, the film is expected to target family audiences and mass-market viewers during its theatrical release.

Whether the movie can translate its pre-release buzz into box office success will become clear after it hits cinemas this week.
