The Kerala government has assured rehabilitation for seven Dalit families facing eviction in Ernakulam’s Pariyathukavu area
June 2, 2026: The Kerala government on Tuesday assured that seven Dalit families facing eviction from Pariyathukavu in Ernakulam district would not be left homeless. Responding to a Calling Attention Motion in the Assembly, Chief Minister V D Satheesan said the government would provide alternative land and houses to the affected families and stand firmly by them during the rehabilitation process.
The Chief Minister stated that the eviction stems from a long-running private land dispute and that court-directed eviction proceedings had already been attempted 14 times in the past. He said the government intervened when the 15th eviction process began and secured two weeks’ time from the High Court. Higher Education Minister Roji M John and local representatives are working to find an amicable solution, while the affected families have reportedly agreed to the government’s rehabilitation proposal.
The issue triggered heated discussions in the Assembly, with concerns also raised about police cases registered during protests against the eviction. Revenue Minister A P Anil Kumar said efforts were ongoing to resolve the matter, while Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala denied allegations of police excesses. The Pariyathukavu dispute involves families who have lived on the land for decades despite ownership claims by private parties, leading to a court order for eviction and renewed demands for rehabilitation.
