A construction worker died in a tragic accident while helping set up the stage for an upcoming concert by global pop star Shakira in Brazil, event organisers confirmed.
The incident took place on Sunday, April 26, during preparations for the singer’s public performance. According to reports cited by PEOPLE magazine, the worker was part of a technical crew responsible for assembling structures for the show.
In a statement shared on Instagram, organisers confirmed the fatality and expressed condolences to those affected.

“The event organisers confirm that an accident this Sunday afternoon (April 26) tragically claimed the life of a professional who was working on assembling the structures for the show,” the statement read.
Worker Sustained Severe Injuries During Lifting Operation
Emergency responders rushed to the site soon after the accident occurred. According to organisers, first responders provided immediate medical care before calling the fire department to transport the injured worker to hospital.
Despite efforts to save him, the worker later succumbed to his injuries.
“First responders provided initial care at the scene, and the Fire Department was immediately called to transport the patient. Unfortunately, the professional passed away at the hospital,” organisers stated.
Authorities later revealed that the worker suffered serious crushing injuries to his lower limbs while operating a lifting system used during stage construction.
Officials from the state fire brigade confirmed that colleagues at the site managed to remove the victim from the machinery before emergency teams arrived.
The injured worker was transported to Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, where doctors later confirmed his death.
Support Being Provided To Family And Crew Members
Following the incident, organisers stated that support services were being extended to the victim’s family, the company responsible for the stage setup, and other team members affected by the tragedy.
“At this time, we are providing all support, comfort, and solidarity to the responsible company, its team, and the victim’s family,” the statement added.
Investigations into the accident are expected to determine the exact cause and whether safety protocols were properly followed.
Shakira’s India Concerts Postponed Amid Regional Tensions
Meanwhile, the tragic incident comes amid changes to the singer’s global tour schedule. Performances by Shakira that were originally planned in Mumbai and Delhi in April have been postponed.
According to organisers, the concerts were delayed due to “geopolitical situation and regional tensions.”
The shows were scheduled to be held at Mahalaxmi Racecourse on April 10 and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on April 15.
New dates for the postponed performances have not yet been announced.
