Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has voiced support for students following the chaotic Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) “Chalo Sansad” protest held in Delhi on July 20. Thousands of protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar to demand education reforms, raise concerns over alleged NEET irregularities, and call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The demonstration witnessed heavy security deployment, with reports of clashes between protesters and police, including the use of tear gas and lathi charges.
Reacting to the developments, Diljit shared a message in Punjabi expressing concern over the treatment of students. He urged the authorities to listen to their demands, stating that “the voice of the people is the voice of God.” His remarks quickly gained attention on social media, where supporters praised his stance while critics questioned his comments.
Addressing the criticism he anticipated, Diljit said he expected to be labelled “anti-national” once again for speaking out. Reflecting on his support for the farmers’ protest in 2020–21, he claimed that he had faced significant backlash and legal challenges following his public statements. Despite this, the singer maintained that he would continue to stand by what he believes is right, adding that “God is watching everything” and praying for everyone’s well-being.
The Delhi protest was organized around demands for transparency in examination systems and broader education reforms. The demonstration attracted widespread participation from students, activists, and political supporters. Reports from the ground indicated tense moments as security forces attempted to manage the crowd, resulting in confrontations that further intensified public debate over the handling of the protest.
Diljit’s reference to the farmers’ movement recalls his active support during the nationwide protests against the Centre’s three farm laws. At the time, he was involved in a widely discussed social media exchange with actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, who had criticized the movement. His latest remarks have once again placed him at the center of a political and social debate.
The protest also saw the participation of several prominent personalities, including actors Shabana Azmi and Prakash Raj, who joined demonstrators alongside CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke in support of the movement.
