Prime Minister Narendra Modi said strict action would be taken against those responsible for the NEET paper leak
July 21, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the NEET paper leak controversy for the first time, assuring that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the alleged irregularities. Speaking at a meeting of NDA MPs ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Modi said the government was sensitive to students’ concerns, had acted promptly after the issue surfaced, and would take steps to prevent such incidents in the future. He also appealed against politicising the matter.
Meanwhile, the Opposition said it would raise both the NEET controversy and the alleged police action against protesters at Jantar Mantar during the Monsoon Session. Thousands of protesters under the banner of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) had gathered for a ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, during which clashes broke out with police. While protesters alleged that Delhi Police resorted to a lathicharge, the police denied the claim and maintained that no such action had taken place.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke accused police of using excessive force and claimed that one woman protester was seriously injured during the demonstration. Separately, CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das met Union Minister JP Nadda, reiterating demands for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, ₹1 crore compensation for families of students who allegedly died by suicide in connection with the controversy, and the release of activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently under treatment at Safdarjung Hospital. The CJP said its protest would continue until its demands are met.
