Actor Kaylee Hottle, who won hearts with her role as Jia in the Godzilla film franchise, has died at the age of 18 following a car accident in Maryland, United States, according to multiple reports.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed by her father, Joshua Hottle, who shared the details during a live stream in American Sign Language (ASL). Kaylee was widely admired for bringing authentic deaf representation to Hollywood through her performances in the MonsterVerse films.
Father Confirms Tragic Accident
According to media, Joshua Hottle said Kaylee was involved in a serious road accident earlier in the day.
After receiving the news, he travelled from Texas to Maryland to be with his daughter. However, officials later informed him that Kaylee had suffered cardiac arrest while she was being transported to the hospital.
Despite medical efforts, doctors were unable to revive her.
Kaylee Hottle Became A Familiar Face In The MonsterVerse
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Kaylee Hottle belonged to a multi-generational deaf family. She began her career at a young age by appearing in commercials, including a public service announcement for the video messaging platform Glide, which is popular within the deaf community.
Her breakthrough came in 2021 when she starred as Jia in Godzilla vs. Kong. In the film, she portrayed a young deaf girl who forms a unique emotional bond with King Kong through sign language.
Her heartfelt performance received praise from both audiences and critics. As a result, she returned to the role in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which was released in 2024.
Television Appearance
In addition to her film career, Kaylee also appeared in the reboot of Magnum P.I.
She played the character Joon in an episode of the show’s fourth season, further showcasing her talent beyond the big screen.
