When Alpha released in theatres on July 3, audiences were quick to notice the impressive physical transformation of Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. Both actors looked powerful, agile and confident while performing demanding action sequences.
Now, their fitness coaches, Karan Sawhney and Robin Behl, have revealed the hard work that went into preparing the two stars. According to them, the training programme lasted for more than a year and focused on building strength, endurance and combat skills.
The Goal Was More Than Just Looking Fit
In a video shared on Instagram, Karan Sawhney and Robin Behl spoke about designing a fitness plan that suited the actors’ busy shooting schedules.
Despite working 10 to 12 hours on set every day, Alia and Sharvari followed a disciplined training routine.
Karan explained that the objective was never limited to achieving a lean physique.
“Alia and Sharvari were shooting 10-12 hours. The brief was simple; it was clear for Alia and Sharvari. I mean, they had to be strong,” he said.
Robin added that the action film demanded much more than good looks.
“They had to look fit, they had to look strong, they had to move well because there was going to be a lot of action,” he shared.
Training Started With Building Strength
Instead of immediately beginning high-intensity workouts, the trainers focused on creating a strong fitness foundation.
Karan said the first step involved strength training before gradually introducing more advanced conditioning exercises.
“The action had to look believable; they had to look toned. We started with a strength programme and then slowly moved into strength and conditioning, where we unlocked certain skills,” he explained.
As a result, both actors developed the stamina and athletic ability needed for physically demanding action scenes.
Martial Arts and Weapon Training Were Part of the Routine
Robin Behl revealed that the preparation extended well beyond regular gym workouts.
The actors also trained in martial arts and learned how to handle weapons for the film’s action sequences.
“It was a long project. We worked on it for over a year, and I think even longer after that. There were weapons involved. There were martial arts involved. So, a more holistic approach towards training rather than just the one and a half to two hours we were spending in the gym,” Robin said.
He added that the dedication shown by both actors is clearly visible on screen.
“I think the results are showing for themselves. They both look amazing. The film is looking great,” he said.
Trainers Praise Alia and Sharvari’s Dedication
The trainers credited the actresses for staying committed throughout the lengthy preparation despite their demanding schedules.
Their programme combined strength training, endurance work, flexibility, mobility, martial arts and combat drills to help them perform realistic action scenes.
According to the trainers, this complete approach made their performances more believable and helped them move naturally during intense sequences.
The video concluded with a message encouraging audiences to watch Alpha and witness the results of the hard work on the big screen.
