The excitement surrounding Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan continues to build, with advance bookings indicating a blockbuster opening at the box office. Just ahead of its release, the film has already crossed Rs 15 crore in day-one advance bookings across India, underlining the massive anticipation among fans.
According to trade tracking website Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan has collected Rs 15.26 crore in advance bookings for its opening day, excluding block seats. Including block bookings, the total advance booking gross has climbed to Rs 21.06 crore.
Over 6.6 Lakh Tickets Sold Before Release
The H. Vinoth directorial has sold 6,61,554 tickets across 8,929 shows nationwide for its opening day.
The Tamil version has overwhelmingly dominated ticket sales, contributing Rs 15.01 crore by selling 6,47,200 tickets across 6,937 shows. The average ticket price for the Tamil version currently stands at Rs 235, reflecting the strong demand across Tamil-speaking regions.
The Telugu version has earned Rs 18.99 lakh through the sale of 12,629 tickets across 839 shows, while the Hindi version has collected Rs 4.77 lakh after selling 1,725 tickets across 1,153 shows.
Tamil Nadu Leads the Advance Booking Race
As expected, Tamil Nadu has emerged as the biggest contributor to the film’s advance booking collections.
The state has generated Rs 8.26 crore in advance sales, which rises to Rs 9.91 crore when block seats are included. The film is also recording an impressive 55% real occupancy across 2,411 shows.
Demand remains exceptionally high, with 1,216 shows already almost full and another 303 shows filling rapidly, highlighting the strong buzz ahead of release.
Karnataka and Kerala Deliver Strong Support
Outside Tamil Nadu, Karnataka has become the film’s second-largest market, contributing Rs 4.39 crore in advance bookings while registering 17% occupancy.
Kerala follows with Rs 1.38 crore in advance sales and 16% occupancy, indicating healthy demand among audiences in the state.
Advance bookings have also been encouraging in Maharashtra and Telangana, although collections in most northern states remain comparatively modest.
Interestingly, despite hosting only a limited number of screenings, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have recorded the highest occupancy rate in the country at 64%, showcasing remarkable audience interest.
Chennai Emerges as the Biggest City for Advance Sales
Among individual cities, Chennai has become the strongest market for Jana Nayagan, collecting Rs 2.78 crore in advance bookings while recording an outstanding 85% real occupancy across 550 shows.
Several other cities in Tamil Nadu have also reported robust ticket demand, including:
- Pondicherry – 83% occupancy
- Coimbatore – 74%
- Vellore – 52%
- Salem – 47%
- Trichy – 44%
- Madurai – 30%
The strong response across the state reinforces Vijay’s immense box office pull ahead of the film’s release.
Bengaluru Leads Outside Tamil Nadu
Among cities outside Tamil Nadu, Bengaluru has emerged as the biggest contributor, generating Rs 4.29 crore in advance bookings across 1,075 shows.
Kerala has also witnessed encouraging pre-sales in cities such as Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Kollam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Kozhikode.
For the Telugu version, Hyderabad is leading ticket sales, followed by Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.
Meanwhile, the Hindi version has seen a comparatively slower response in the markets where bookings have opened.
Set for One of Vijay’s Biggest Openings
With advance bookings crossing Rs 15 crore without block seats and more than Rs 21 crore including block bookings, Jana Nayagan is on course for one of the biggest theatrical openings of Vijay’s career.
The exceptional demand across Tamil Nadu, strong support from neighbouring states, and rapidly filling theatres suggest the H. Vinoth directorial is poised to make a powerful start at the box office.
