After months of anticipation and delays, Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited final film Jana Nayagan has officially received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). According to details available on the CBFC website, the film has been awarded an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate with a runtime of 183 minutes and 11 seconds, clearing the way for its theatrical release after an extended certification process.

Reports suggest that the action drama underwent several cuts and modifications before receiving approval. As per a report by Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC directed the makers to alter or mute multiple dialogues, references, and visuals. Among the notable changes was the modification of a book cover featuring Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, while a dialogue referencing “Ambedkar sattam… TVK sattam” was reportedly altered. The board also instructed the makers to mute or modify every mention of “TVK”, the abbreviation for Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, wherever it appeared in the film.
The report further states that a dialogue considered disrespectful towards women was muted, along with a specific line related to social media. Additionally, several religious references and abusive words—including “Bhagavatham,” “Ranganathar,” “Siluvalia,” and two expletives were muted. The word “Om” was reportedly removed entirely, while the name “Sheela Rani” was replaced throughout the film. References to “New India” during an explanation of Operation Meluha were also omitted.

Apart from dialogue changes, the CBFC is said to have ordered multiple visual edits. A scene depicting the Indian national flag falling to the ground was deleted, while another sequence showing a DC official’s badge being disrespected was modified. The board also removed two scenes featuring visuals of a child being burned, citing certification guidelines.
According to reports, the revised version of Jana Nayagan was granted its ‘A’ certificate on July 9, 2026, after all the prescribed modifications were implemented.
The film’s certification comes after a prolonged delay that affected its planned theatrical release. Originally scheduled to hit cinemas on January 9, 2026, Jana Nayagan was unable to release as planned because it had not received CBFC clearance. The makers initially challenged the delay through legal proceedings before later withdrawing the case and submitting the film to the CBFC’s Revising Committee, which has now approved the final version.
With the certification hurdle finally cleared, fans are eagerly awaiting an official announcement regarding the film’s new release date, as Jana Nayagan marks what has been billed as Vijay’s final film before fully focusing on his political career.
