Actor Ram Kapoor has candidly spoken about his relationship with wife Gautami Kapoor and the circumstances surrounding her first marriage during a conversation on the reality show Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa. The television star revealed that Gautami was unhappy in her previous marriage and did not receive support from her family when she decided to end the relationship.
Speaking to fellow contestants Akanksha Chamola and Pamala Serena, Ram shared that he and Gautami first met on the sets of Ghar Ek Mandir in 2000. As their friendship grew stronger, he gradually learned more about her personal struggles. According to Ram, Gautami had spent nearly two-and-a-half years in her first marriage, but the couple had lived apart for much of that period.
Ram recalled that Gautami wanted to end the marriage but found little encouragement from her family. “I found out she wanted to end the marriage. She wasn’t getting support from her family. They were saying, ‘Absolutely not,'” he shared. During that difficult phase, Ram said he stood by her as a close friend and assured her that she could count on his support throughout the divorce process.
The actor also reflected on how his feelings for Gautami gradually developed. While shooting for Monsoon Wedding in Delhi, Ram realized how much he missed talking to her every day. Initially hesitant to acknowledge his emotions, he distanced himself briefly before Gautami confronted him about the sudden change. Eventually, both admitted they had developed feelings for each other but were equally nervous about expressing them.
Ram was careful to add that Gautami’s first husband, Madhur Shroff, was “a good guy” and emphasized that he did not blame him for the marriage ending. Instead, he said the relationship simply wasn’t right for Gautami, who has no regrets about moving forward with her life.
After dating for two years, Ram Kapoor and Gautami Kapoor got married in 2003. The couple has since become one of television’s most admired pairs and are parents to two children. Ram’s heartfelt revelations have resonated with fans, who praised the couple’s honesty and the importance of supporting loved ones through difficult personal decisions.
