Independent horror film Obsession has emerged as one of the biggest surprise hits of 2026. Made on a modest budget of just $750,000 (around ₹7 crore), the film has already crossed $100 million (more than ₹950 crore) at the global box office.
The remarkable performance gives the film a profit margin exceeding 10,000%, making it one of the most profitable releases of the year.

Written, directed, and edited by Curry Barker, Obsession tells the story of Bear, a music store employee portrayed by Michael Johnston.
Bear secretly loves his childhood friend Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette. After purchasing a mysterious supernatural item known as the “One Wish Willow,” he makes a wish for Nikki to fall in love with him.
However, the wish quickly spirals into a nightmare as Nikki’s affection transforms into a dangerous and terrifying obsession.
The horror film premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival before receiving a theatrical release on May 15.

What Is Obsession About?
The story follows Bear, a lonely employee at a music store who struggles to express his feelings for Nikki, his longtime friend and coworker.
After another unsuccessful attempt to tell her how he feels, Bear visits a mysterious crystal shop and purchases the One Wish Willow.
Desperate for love, he wishes that Nikki would love him more than anyone else in the world.
At first, the wish appears successful. However, Nikki’s emotions soon become extreme and uncontrollable.
