As anticipation continues to grow for Ramayana Part One, an old statement by producer Namit Malhotra has gone viral once again. The film’s first look will be showcased at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) on July 23, while the official trailer is scheduled to release on July 24.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the mythological epic stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita. With the trailer launch just days away, Malhotra’s earlier comments about the film’s global ambitions have once again caught the attention of fans.
Namit Malhotra wants Ramayana to impress the world
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times in August last year, Namit Malhotra said the film is not being made only for Indian audiences. Instead, he wants Ramayana to connect with viewers across the world.
According to him, the project would fall short of its goal if it failed to impress audiences in Western countries.
“In my mind, if people in the West don’t like it, I consider that as a failure. It is meant for the world. So if you don’t like it, shame on me. We should have done a better job,” Malhotra had said.
His remarks have resurfaced ahead of the trailer launch and have sparked fresh conversations on social media about the film’s international appeal.
The producer believes stories should connect across cultures
Namit Malhotra further explained that his vision for Ramayana goes beyond geographical boundaries. He said the film has been designed as a global cinematic experience from the very beginning.
He believes that a story as timeless as the Ramayana should emotionally connect with audiences everywhere, regardless of where they come from.
“It’s a global film from the day we start. I’m not trying to make it to appease Indian people in India. If you go and watch Ramayana and your family watches it, and people in India watch it, what’s the difference? It should speak to you like any other film,” he said.
According to Malhotra, great storytelling should resonate universally rather than being limited to one country or culture.
Ramayana aims to match global blockbuster standards
The producer also compared Ramayana with some of Hollywood’s biggest cinematic achievements.
He said the ambition is to create a film that earns the same level of admiration from international audiences as movies like Avatar, Gladiator, and films directed by Christopher Nolan.
His comments highlight the makers’ intention to present Indian mythology with world-class visual effects, storytelling, and production values.
