When Gadar: Ek Prem Katha became a massive hit, the on-screen romance between Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel as Tara Singh and Sakeena captured the hearts of millions. Their chemistry was so powerful that many fans began to see the characters as real, blurring the line between reel and reality.
Years later, Ameesha found herself in a hilarious situation that showed just how deeply audiences were attached to her character — this time during the filming of Humraaz.
Fans Reacted Strongly During Climax Scene Shoot
In a recent conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Ameesha Patel recalled filming a crucial climax scene at a fort in Jaipur alongside Bobby Deol and Akshaye Khanna.
Describing the scene, she said:
“I was shooting for Humraaz at Jaipur fort. It was the climax scene, in which I had to shoot Akshaye Khanna with a gun, and Bobby Deol had to hug me.”
What followed, however, turned the intense shoot into a moment of unexpected comedy.
Crowd Shouted ‘Leave Her, She Belongs to Tara Singh’
According to Ameesha, a large crowd had gathered around the shooting location. Police and barricades were in place to control the public, but excitement among fans remained high.
As Bobby Deol moved in to hug her for the scene, the crowd reacted loudly — but not in the way the filmmakers expected.
She recalled the moment vividly:
“When Bobby came to hug me, people started shouting loudly, ‘Leave her. Yeh toh Taara Singh ki amaanat hai… vo Pakistan se leke aaya hai usse, chorr Sakeena ko.’ (Leave her. She belongs to Tara Singh… he brought her from Pakistan, leave Sakeena).”
The emotional intensity of the scene was quickly overshadowed by the audience’s passionate reaction.
Serious Scene Turned Into Laughter on Set
Despite the dramatic nature of the scene, the crowd’s reaction made it impossible for the cast and crew to stay serious.
Ameesha said the moment felt both touching and amusing.
“It was a bittersweet and happy feeling that people loved Tara and Sakeena so much that they couldn’t digest someone else coming into her life. But it was laughable also, because after all it was a film, not real life.”
She added that even the actors and directors burst into laughter during the shoot. Joking about the situation, she told Bobby Deol:
“I won’t hug you now, main aapke bhai ki amaanat hu — yeh samajh lo aap.”
Why Gadar’s Love Story Became So Iconic
Released in 2001, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, directed by Anil Sharma, was set during the Partition of India in 1947.
The film became one of the biggest box-office hits of its time and remains one of Bollywood’s most iconic love stories. Its emotional narrative and powerful performances made Tara Singh and Sakeena household names across India.
The franchise later returned with Gadar 2, which featured Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma reprising their roles.
About Humraaz and Its Star Cast
Humraaz is a psychological thriller directed by the filmmaker duo Abbas-Mustan. The film starred Bobby Deol, Akshaye Khanna, and Ameesha Patel in leading roles.
Known for its suspense-driven plot and dramatic twists, the film was inspired by the Hollywood thriller A Perfect Murder, which itself drew inspiration from Dial M for Murder.
The movie remains memorable for its gripping storyline and one of Akshaye Khanna’s early negative roles.
Why This Incident Still Resonates
The humorous incident highlights the deep emotional bond audiences once had with film characters, especially during the early 2000s when cinema held a powerful cultural influence.
For Ameesha Patel, the moment remains a reminder of how strongly fans connected with Tara Singh and Sakeena — a love story that continues to live on in popular memory.
