New Delhi:
The controversy surrounding the death of 31-year-old Twisha Sharma has intensified after fresh allegations made by her in-laws triggered a sharp response from her family, who accused them of attempting to defame her after her death.

Twisha’s sister-in-law, Rashi Sharma, strongly condemned the claims made by her mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, calling the remarks “shocking” and “appalling”.

Speaking to media, Rashi Sharma questioned why Twisha’s character was being publicly attacked when she was no longer alive to defend herself.

“It is okay to accuse. It is okay to defame the entire family. But it is really shocking and appalling to do so for someone who is deceased,” she said.

She further alleged that the behaviour being witnessed now reflected what Twisha may have endured during her marriage.

“If this is the condition after she has passed away, this was the condition while she was alive. The defamatory remarks, the constant howling at her and constantly putting her down through words and actions was definitely true,” Rashi added.

In-Laws Claimed Twisha Was “Schizophrenic” And A Drug Addict

The remarks came days after Giribala Singh publicly alleged that Twisha suffered from schizophrenia, required “constant monitoring”, and struggled with substance abuse.

The family was also accused of forcing Twisha into the glamour industry and later abandoning her.

Twisha’s cousin, Ashish Sharma, rejected the allegations and described her as someone who always stood for truth and justice.

“She was the first person to reach out to anyone. Not just me, many others are astonished by these allegations,” he said.

He also pointed out that Twisha is no longer alive to “tell her own truth”.

Family Alleges Dowry Harassment

Twisha Sharma’s family has alleged that she faced continuous harassment linked to dowry demands and has claimed that her death is connected to that harassment.

Her husband, Samarth Singh, has reportedly been missing since Twisha’s death on May 12.

Police have already registered a case related to dowry harassment and abetment allegations, while investigations continue.

Final Messages Pointed To Emotional Distress

According to the family, Twisha’s final messages sent shortly before her death suggested deep emotional distress and anxiety.

In those messages, she allegedly described herself as being “trapped” in the marriage and warned a friend against making a similar mistake.

Her parents also claimed that Twisha had asked to return home, following which tickets had been arranged and family members were preparing to bring her back.

Questions Raised Over Postmortem Findings

The preliminary postmortem report reportedly stated that Twisha died by hanging. However, the family claims multiple bruises were found on her body, raising further questions around the circumstances of her death.

Her father, Navnidhi Sharma, and cousin Ashish Sharma told NDTV they have been “running from pillar to post” in Bhopal seeking justice.

The family is now demanding a second postmortem examination to be conducted in Delhi.

Investigation Continues

The case has drawn widespread public attention amid conflicting narratives from both families.

While the in-laws maintain that Twisha was mentally unwell and emotionally unstable, her family insists she was being harassed and psychologically pressured inside her marital home.

Authorities are continuing their investigation as pressure mounts for a detailed forensic review and further questioning of those involved.
